Ride to pulicat lake
Published: September 26, 2024

June 30th Sunday would have been a normal weekend with a game of badminton or me gazing through some meaningless videos on the internet but that was not it.

It all started with a casual chat with Senthil (my Colleague) who is also part of Chennai Renegades (CR) about a long bike ride. He said he is part of CR and why don’t I give it a try. I have done solo trips, some with my brother to Yelagiri, Yercaud, Kohli, Pondy and other places here, but always keen to be a part of a group ride and wanted to experience that flavor. Then came the spark, why not?

The induction was seamless, Mohan shot a quick message asking my intent and when I replied yes, added me to the group, made me fill some forms and there we went part of “Road Masters” the basecamp before the Chennai Renegades.

Showed my interest for the first short ride to Pulicat lake. The trip was well organized with the organisers penning down the basic etiquettes that are expected in the ride, the safety gears that should be worn and hand signs that will be followed during the ride.

D – day: Come June 30th I made sure I am on time, reached the peel -off point by 5.30 AM. There was a pre-ride brief that was given and then we started off on time. The route was a mix of good, bad, and ugly patches.

Was part of group 1 with just a bike away from the lead. It was a different experience riding or following someone all throughout the trip, I was a bit conscious during the initial part of the ride with all the hand signs and stuff, but slowly things grew into me.

Reached the destination in some time and we had a nice introduction session of the new members, their experience with bikes and their background. Even though I was the only one with RE Meteor and rest all (mostly) with highness I was never left out. Got to mention Dr.Ram who was an excellent ice breaker who made people open-up and made them feel at home.

Post introduction, we had some photo sessions and started back for breakfast. Breakfast was simple but tasty, chit-chats after breakfast and then we headed back home and of course drinks (rose milk) before reaching home.

Arrangements were excellent, kudos to the organizers. It is not easy to coordinate a group of 20 people and give a special credit to them.

Looking forward to graduate from the Road Masters to the CR group for the long rides, hope it happens soon

Ride With Pride!
